Priscilla Queen of the Dessert is playing at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow from the 29 March to 2 April 2016 and the opening night was a sell out! Priscilla was originally a film which quickly became a cult classic when it was first shown in 1994. In 2006 Priscilla Queen of the Desert was made into a hit musical and is now Australia’s most successful musical of all time.
On arrival, the theatre looked fantastic and as ever the service there was excellent.
Priscilla is about two drag queens, and a transgender woman (Tick/Mitizi (Duncan James – formerly of the band Blue), Adam/Felicia (Adam Bailey) and Bernadette (Simon Green)) who travel to a town in the remote Australian desert in order for the three to perform their drag show and for Tick to meet his young son for the first time. The show concentrates on the three friends traveling in their battered bus, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the adventures they get up to on the way. There are many, many laughs and touching moments but the show also tackles the subject of homophobia, which is an important part of the story and the characters’ lives.
Priscilla is a very flamboyant show, if you are after gaudy frocks, sequins, glitter, and massive head gear alongside dancefloor favourites then this is the show for you. Fabulous songs sung very well by the whole cast.
A lovely heart-warming musical.
Tickets cost from £15 to £47.50 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
