What can I say about The Snowman? Its traditional, nostalgic, heart-warming and magical! The prefect mix to get the Christmas spirit flowing. Add the Nutcracker Suite in and you have a captivating mix and this little show was as comforting as a cosy blanket and a mug of hot chocolate on a snowy winter day.
Opening with the orchestra playing a Christmas medley we were then introduced to the instrument in the orchestra through poetry making the adults laugh rhyming and music to keep they youngsters entertained.
We were then treated to pieces from the Nutcracker with cute little animations.
My twins are Nutcracker mad so we’re a little confused by there being no animations of the mice in the animations as there are in the actual story but the orchestra was beautifully crisp and fresh and my children were clearly enthralled. Humming the tunes and tapping their feet.
Before the 15 minute intermission The Snowman arrives and many children go to meet The Snowman as he (a costumed person) danced round the theatre. Up in the dress circle the twins wildly waved as he danced while one of the pieces from the animation was performed by the orchestra.
In the 2nd half the animation was performed on the big screen as the orchestra play the score perfect. The atmosphere was magic there was a lovely emotional heart-warming performance of walking in the air sang beautifully by local young lad (we were sat behind his family members).
Without a doubt a show to be seen if you love The Snowman. My boys almost 4 talked non-stop on the way home about what they enjoyed we are now brimming full with Christmas spirit.
A lovely little idea put together so well. The Snowman somethings my mother and I shared from my childhood it now part of my own childhood, a simple hand drawn animation with a lovely musical score that comes to life each Christmas time.
