The title of this book really intrigued me and I was delighted to have the opportunity to review it. A very simple idea but one that will give family memories that can be handed down through the generations for ever… ‘ a journal of a lifetime’ it is described as and this is exactly what it is.
The title I was given was ‘Dear Grandma – From You To Me’. This hard backed book has a beautiful colourful cover which draws you inside. Within are many many pages with simple questions designed to jog the memory of the loved one to share their memories with you, the reader. This may be granddads memories, grandma’s or mum or dad for example. The questions are cleverly designed to reach into their first memories of various chapters in their lives, their feelings, their interest and hobbies and lots of other moments with many blank pages left to fill in all the gaps, perhaps even sticking in some photographs too. Thus leaving lots of memories to be shared with the reader for many years to come.
Questions such as ‘Describe any family traditions you had or maybe still have’….’Tell me about the time and place you were born’, ‘Did you have an idol as a child?’ – questions you probably have never thought to ask your gran.
The book is for any grandchild to give to their gran asking her to fill in the answers to all the questions within the journal and then give back to their grandchild. The grandchild then has a beautiful book to treasure for ever with lots of information, stories and memories for them to discover about their gran, things they may never have had the opportunity to know had they not had this wonderful book. I can see my daughters sitting reading all of their grans stories with love and laughter, giggling at some of their grans answers. I can see them sitting with her reading it together. And when they are older they have wonderful gift to hand to their children, to share all the wonderful memories of their gran with their own children.
I love the idea, so simple yet so clever and something to treasure forever. I will certainly be purchasing the other titles, I think they would make a wonderful gift.
My only one little gripe is I wish they also did a ‘ Dear ‘Granny’ for us scots 🙂
