Ewan the Dream Sheep Review
Ewan the Dream Sheep
Reviewed by Laura Fairbairn
I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to review Ewan the Dream Sheep because, as a new mum, I am interested in the different ways to comfort a young baby and encourage them to be calm and sleep well.
Ewan arrived very well packaged in a plastic cylinder that provides security and protection for the product whilst in transit or on a store shelf – it is not too heavy but very sturdy so the product is perfectly safe even if it were dropped. The packaging is very attractive and very colourful and whilst the main focus is darker colours suggesting night-time, the background is of lovely hills and fields – very appropriate for Ewan! Ewan had won many awards such as ‘The Mother and Baby Award’ and ‘The Gift of the Year’ and this information is proudly displayed on the front and back of the box. Also displayed very clearly on the back of the packaging are the contact details for the company and a description of Ewan and his uses (which are shown in several different languages).
Ewan requires 3 AAA batteries to function and these need to be installed in the small battery pack that you will find tucked away in his tummy behind a Velcro seal. The batteries are secured behind a little door that is locked by a small screw which provides an extra level of security for any concerned parents. The battery pack also provides the option of volume control – the two choices being loud and quiet – to me, this is an added bonus that I haven’t found on many other toys for children and enables you to alter the volume at different times of day and for different environments.
Ewan has a lovely warm ‘glow’ that can be seen on his tummy when a noise is selected. To turn one of the noises on all you need to do is press his leg and each leg offers a different soothing low frequency sound. Our favourite is the womb and heart beat noise – it is very comforting to our baby daughter and it is lovely for myself and my fiancé as well because it reminds us of the times when we were able to hear her heartbeat at midwife appointments.
Ewan has a Velcro tail that enables you to attach him to the side of a cot, a pram, a car seat, etc… It is a very strong Velcro but it is not recommended that it be attached anywhere near the head of a baby that is sleeping because whilst it is secured by its tail, it could still be manoeuvred onto the child’s face – it is not a dangerous item when used properly but even so, it is good that the manufacturer has had the forethought to mention it.
Ewan has made the most difference to us in the early hours of the day when our baby girl is ready to get up but we aren’t quite there yet as it soothes her and either sends her back to sleep or calms her for long enough for us to wake up properly.
It is also important to point out that Ewan is very cuddly!
I would be happy to recommend Ewan the Dream Sheep to any parents that want an extra way to provide comfort and relaxation to their child.
