A packed theatre awaited us as we entered Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells to see Rumours of Fleetwood Mac last night. The show starts with a filmed endorsement of their music from former Fleetwood Mac founder Mick Fleetwood which is as good an endorsement as you can get.
The band is made up of 8 members, Louise Rogan (Stevie Nicks), Alan Hughes (Lindsey Buckingham), Amanda Kostadinov (Christine McVie), Dave Goldberg (Peter Green), Allan Cosgrove (Mick Fleetwod), Ben Hughes (Danny Kirwin), James Harrison (John McVie) and Paul Walsham (drums & percussion). Louise is particularly convincing as Stevie Nicks imitating her strong yet gravelly voice perfectly.
The set makes its way through several albums and eras of music from the Peter Green days to the more recent Stevie Nicks hits. All the big tracks were played, Landslide, Albatross, Tango in the Night and Big Love to name but a few. The band are all perfectly tuned to each other, look like they are having a good time and make it obvious that they have been playing together a long time. With over 600 concerts been played across the country you can see how they have got their concerts down to a fine art yet it doesn’t feel too staged.
Musically they are all excellent with Ben Hughes doing fantastic guitar solo showing serious passion in his playing. Amanda does a very good low key version of Songbird during which the audience was deadly silent, you could hear a pin drop until it ended with rapturous applause.
We saw the show at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells which is the perfect sized venue for the show, intimate yet atmospheric. The staff are prompt and courteous, the venue clean and tidy and has easy access for those with disabilities. It is an easy place to park too with a multi storey car park next door with charges of only £1.00 per night.
A great show at a great venue, a highly recommended night out.
