A CD to review – this should be straightforward, I thought. WRONG! Reviewing this CD is extremely difficult. It took me several plays to decide what genre of music I’m discussing. And who is Beechwood? Well Beechwwod Music, would seem to be one Adam Jarvis, who has clearly spent a lot of time and effort putting together this 7 track CD. I have played this several times on my 40 mile journey to work, and I can say that the music is calming and inoffensive. The style goes from chillout to electronic jazz, with quiet piano interludes in such tracks as Amaranthine. It’s certainly music to relax to – you can take it in or let it wash over you. It’s not ambience music exactly but it could be if you wanted it to be.
I realise this isn’t helping a potential listener much. My suggestion would be to go to the Beechwood Music Facebook page and have a listen to the sample tracks. You will quickly know if this is for you. If I’m honest, it is not the sort of music I would buy for my own listening. However if I was running an independent coffee bar with comfy sofas and slight condensation on the windows I would definitely have this playing. It’s clever and tightly produced. My 13 year old daughter felt some of the tracks would make great ringtones for her iPhone. Try and get a listen to this if you can – it may well appeal. The magnificent tree artwork sleeve design alone might be a good enough reason to buy this!
Beechwood Music seems to have a strong local following, but what seems to be missing is any aggressive form of marketing – Google it and you will find almost nothing. This is a shame because the music deserves more. Give it a listen – it might surprise you!
