As a Michael Jackson fan, when I was asked to go and see Thriller Live on tour my immediate reaction was yes! I’ve been counting down the days since and I wasn’t disappointed.
We arrived at the venue about 30 minutes before the show was due to start to lap up the atmosphere; and we did just that. On entering the theatre we were stunned by the elegant playing of the grand piano in the entrance.
I hadn’t been to the New Victoria Theatre in Woking before and I enjoyed it’s classic yet contemporary feel. We grabbed a drink from one of the many well-staffed bars and proceeded to find our seats. We were in the stalls approximately 10 rows back and towards the middle which made for perfect viewing.
As the lights went down and the music started I knew we were in for a treat. The show kicked off with Jackson 5’s ‘I want you back’ followed by many of their other hits. We then moved onto a few of Michael Jackson’s own classics such as ‘She’s out of my life’ and ‘Off the wall’ before breaking into the interval.
We opted for another a drink (although there were plenty of ice creams and other snacks available) and took a seat on the plush sofas in the bar area. We could still hear the piano playing from the next floor up and everybody was buzzing about the show so far. It was a fantastic atmosphere with excitement about what we were going to see in the next half.
After 15 minutes we got the call to take our seats once again.
The second act followed Michael Jackson’s journey through his numerous albums. We were also reminded about the phenomenal about of awards he received. The songs in this half included ‘Beat it’, ‘Smooth Criminal’ and my personal favourite ‘Dirty Diana’.
The singing and dancing was just fantastic throughout. Truly world class. Every single move was well choreographed and every note was hit. Thank you Thriller crew for a fantastic night of entertainment and a reminder of what a legend Michael Jackson was. You really did honour him well.
