I have been very impressed with the Grubs Waterline Black 4.0 shoe, that I have been reviewing, they have become part of my everyday routine, especially in the mornings when the weather has been a bit chilly and damp. Perfect for me to pop out for a walk with the dog, doing a bit of gardening, or just need something quick and comfortable to slip on, these shoes have been great.

The comfort is genuinely impressive. The 4mm neoprene lining makes a noticeable difference, keeping your feet warm without feeling overly bulky. It’s one of those subtle features that you really appreciate, especially on cooler mornings or damp days. At the same time, they don’t feel sweaty or restrictive, which I’ve found can sometimes be an issue with waterproof footwear. I would have normally opted for wellies, which are too hot, or crocs or flip flops which do not give the same protection for your feet.
Speaking of waterproofing, these shoes do exactly what they promise. Walking through wet grass, muddy paths, or even shallow puddles hasn’t been a problem at all. My feet stay completely dry, which is a big win if you spend time outdoors in unpredictable weather. The rubber exterior feels durable and well-made, giving me confidence that they’ll last more than just a season.

Another thing I really like is how easy they are to slip on and off. The design is simple but practical, with a snug fit that doesn’t feel tight. They stay securely on your feet while walking, but you don’t have to struggle to get them on or off when you’re in a hurry. For me, that convenience is a huge plus, especially when popping outside quickly.

The grip on the sole is also worth mentioning. I’ve used them on wet decking, muddy garden paths, and even slightly uneven ground, and they’ve held up well. I haven’t felt at risk of slipping, which adds a nice level of reassurance. The sole has enough flexibility to stay comfortable but still feels sturdy and supportive underfoot.

Style-wise, they’re quite understated. The black finish gives them a clean, classic look that goes with pretty much anything casual. They’re not flashy, but they don’t need to be—they’re practical and look perfectly fine for everyday outdoor use.

If I had to mention any minor downside, it would be that they could be a bit too warm for hotter summer days. That neoprene lining that works so well in cooler weather could feel slightly too insulating when temperatures rise. But for most of the year, especially in our UK climate, they’re just about spot on.

Price wise, they may be out of price range for some, but if you are going to get your usage out of them, ideal for anyone into water sports, boating and swimming or even parents cheering on their children on the sports pitch. Then they will be worth the investment.

Overall, I’d happily recommend the Grubs boot Waterline Black 4.0 to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and waterproof slip-on shoe. They strike a great balance between practicality and comfort, and they’ve definitely earned their place as a go-to pair in my everyday routine.
