Whilst I love a treat for myself, I have wanted to get my husband into a good skincare routine for some time. For clarity, the test subject of this review is a fifty something male who thinks that a good skincare routine is using whatever he has to hand; this can be my face wash, my teenage daughter’s anti-acne wash or even hand soap. The only time he moisturises is on holiday. I despair. He really needs a good routine to freshen his skin up.
I was asked to review Green Peoples’ Men’s Skin care Hero’s gift set. The company was founded by Charlotte Vohtz over 25 years ago, with the goal being to provide ethical organic skin care for sensitive skin. This international brand focuses on plant friendly packaging, prides itself on being vegan, cruelty free and made in the UK.
This gift set is suitable for all skin types, is alcohol-free and contains some amazing natural ingredients; green tea for its antioxidant properties to protect skin from collagen breakdown. Bamboo stem to exfoliate, mandarin oil to boost circulation and cell regeneration and finally Irish moss to moisturise and leave skin silky soft.
The products we were asked to test arrived in a compact mat silver tin, and there were three 100ml black tubes in this pack. We liked the colour scheme; simple and clean looking. It was also a relief to see that the three bottles were labelled with numbers 1, 2 and 3 in order of use as my husband would not have realised that we exfoliate, wash then moisturise. He was a little baffled at the idea of using the face and shave wash, working it into a lather then shaving before rinsing but soon got into the habit. I found that to be quite a smart idea, and time saving.
All three tubes smell different, but equally fresh without being overpowering. Starting with step 1, the exfoliating face scrub was lovely to use and not too abrasive or harsh, leaving his face oil free and looking clean and refreshed.
Step 2 (the soothing wash and shave) lathers up very nicely so you don’t need a huge amount. Step 3 (cooling moisturiser) was particularly refreshing on his face and soaked in quickly. He felt that it tightened up his face a little and his skin tingled afterwards. He is not used to skincare and loved the fresh smell and how soft his skin felt. He was also pleased that very little went a long way.
My husband’s skin generally skin alternates between dry, red and blotchy with occasional spots and blemishes. Overall after several days using this skincare routine his skin was cleaner, softer, clear of dry patches and was oil free. He has finally admitted that I may be onto something with having a good skincare routine.
This would be a well-received gift idea for any man who likes to look good and who appreciates healthy looking skin using natural ingredients. It is a quick and easy routine, especially with the wash and shave step.
The RRP for this set is £59.50 (current offer £53). This works out slightly more than what I spend on my own face routine, but isn’t ridiculously high for this standard of product. Whilst it does work out cheaper to purchase the items as a set rather than individually, I do think a cheaper pack without the tin or a deal on buying three products together would be a good idea so that re-stocking feels better value. That said, the company do offer a 20% discount for first time users and 15% discount with regular subscriptions as well as a rewards scheme.
I would award this product 4.5 stars out of 5 for quality ingredients, ease of use and a fantastic result.
