I love pantomimes and so I jumped at the opportunity of reviewing Rapunzel A Tangled Tale At The Albert Halls in Bolton. The venue can be reached easily by car or public transport. We spent a few minutes taking in the beautiful lights projected onto the building before walking into the foyer and finding our seats.   Every single member of staff that we came across was professional, helpful and approachable.  I have both invisible and visible disabilities including mobility issues and my request for an aisle seat was accommodated. The toilet facilities were well looked after and the building has lifts.

Now to the performance, it was brought to us by the amazing Polka Dot Pantomimes.   From the moment the pantomime started I was mesmerised, as were my adult guest and my little humans.  The cast’s interaction with the audience was hilarious from the start. Any innuendo was done very cleverly.  Vicky Entwistle, who I loved watching on Coronation Street, played the part of Mother Gothel fantastically.  My little humans really enjoyed booing at her whenever she came onto the stage.  Lucy-Rose Rollason played the part of Fairy Rose beautifully and is also the show’s choreographer. Her costume was absolutely stunning and the dance routines were really impressive.  If I had to pick a favourite character, it would be Loopy Louis played by Rollo.  He is the most hilarious person I have come across in a long time and is great with the audience. I don’t think the costume designers could have picked more perfect costumes for Loopy Louis.

Betty Bouffant, played by Ian Parkin had me laughing so much, with crazy flamboyant costumes.  Betty Bouffant’s interaction with one member of the audience had me almost crying with laughter.  That member of the audience was such a good sport and even helped out later on in the show. Tyler Sargent played the part of Flynn Ryder wonderfully.  He had beautiful on stage chemistry with Abi Ellis-Walter who played the part of Rapunzel. Rapunzel’s interaction with Karma Chameleon was both adorable and hilarious.   Kivan Dene was hilarious as King Bumble.  He brought such energy to the stage.  I was wowed by the dancing/singing skills of the ensemble. Their families must be so proud.

Stand out moments of the show for me were when Flynn Ryder was flying through the air in a flying machine and also classic who’s behind you pantomime moments which had so many members of the audience joining in.  One of my favourite moments involved a hilarious tongue twister.  The ending of the pantomime was beautiful. I won’t tell you exactly what happened though.

The costumes, lighting, set and sound were wonderful and really added to the fantastic atmosphere. There was an interval part way through the show that provided a welcome opportunity for getting a drink and using the toilet facilities.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this pantomime brought to us by Polka Dot Pantomimes to others, in fact I could watch it over and over again.   I absolutely loved visiting the Albert Halls.  I cannot wait for an opportunity to go back again. It was such a lovely way to spend an evening making memories with my little humans and a friend.
