I’ve been testing 47 Skin’s Serum and Daily SPF 30 and, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was curious. I’ve seen their ads on social media and I went and read their founder story. It’s an interesting one with a personal journey – but no spoilers you can find that for yourself and why they believe in their products.
The price point puts it on the cusp of being high-end, and the branding is clean and minimal, which gives it a more clinical look I think. What drew me in, though, was the mention of “Chitoderm”— which is the brand’s trademarked active ingredient. As someone who’s spent years scanning the backs of bottles for gimmicks and real science, I was curious to see what this one might do.
Chitoderm is described as a fusion of naturally derived chitosan (usually from marine sources) with a silver-based compound that helps calm inflammation, reduce redness, and target blemishes. Essentially, it’s designed to create a sort of invisible second skin, a protective layer that also helps with healing. It sounds clever, and the science seems to suggest it has antimicrobial properties without being harsh, which for acne-prone or sensitive skin is a big deal. If your skin throws a tantrum every time you change your routine, this offers a kind of buffer.
It’s often said that colloidal silver is meant to be healing, having done a deep dive into this in the past I’m please to say 47 Skin aren’t making any irrational claims. But they are talking about the synergy values of silver and chitosan which is a different matter.
In terms of texture, both products are pleasant and unfussy. Not too heavy, not too light, and crucially it doesn’t leave a greasy film or that weird SPF sheen you sometimes get under makeup. It soaks in quickly and has a mild, almost undetectable scent. I didn’t notice any pilling, even when layered with other products. For me, that’s a win. I’ve had no breakouts from it, and it’s not caused any flare-ups.
I tend not to have troubled skin these days unless it’s a hormonal break out so I was trying the serum on some healing skin from an injury. It’s early days though.
One thing that’s surprised me is that I can still feel the serum ever so slightly in the morning when I’ve used it the night before. It’s still there, and I assume being active.
For the SPF I’ve worn it indoors and outdoors, and I haven’t had any irritation or itching, which is a common problem for some with sun blocks.
It’s also worth saying that, unlike some SPFs, it plays well with other skincare. I especially like this. I really dislike when foundation won’t sit right or it looks like an oil slick . No flaking, no dryness, it genuinely seems to be helping to keep the barrier balanced. It’s a broad-spectrum SPF 30, which is decent for daily use. I’m careful in the sun anyway so I haven’t tested it to it’s limits. It’s not marketed as water-resistant, so I wouldn’t rely on it poolside, but for a morning commute or day out and about, it’s more than adequate.
It’s not chalky, doesn’t leave a white cast, even on lightly tanned skin and doesn’t seem to clog my pores.
It’s available at Boots for £23.00 and on their own website
And the serum is also at Boots at £29.00 for 30ml.
There is a smaller version available if you don’t want to commit to the full size bottle, but I’d encourage you to give it a go if you struggle with acne, teen skin, troubled skin and reactive or recovering skin.

47 Skin has been a breeze to use. I tend to prefer beautifully scented products which is the only aspect I felt was a shame about this line of products. But that’s not for everyone of course and of course it can’t clash nor cause reactions for those who value scent free products.
Give it a whirl, see what you think.
