I really didn’t know what to expect with this one, I’d seen the reviews and honestly couldn’t believe that anything could be THAT GOOD? Surely not.

They were all wrong, it was even better.

The story followed the rocky, yet short, life of seventies glam rock god, Marc Bolan. His personality, that of a flamboyant narcissist, was beautifully portrayed by Sollars – even if he did touch his wig a lot! A total feast for the senses, my eyes were constantly on the move looking at the colours, the scenes, the movements – glorious. My ears were treated to amazing covers of some fantastic songs, incredibly talented singers and a feast of music, and every inch of my skin was tingling due to the indescribable atmosphere. First time in my life I’ve danced in my seat and my mother joined me too! Everyone was moving, singing, enjoying – the theatre was absolutely alive.

I usually pick out a few of my favourite cast members and try and pick some of my favourite scenes – impossible. Everyone was amazing, out of this world, just perfect for their roles. It seemed like the whole cast gelled together, worked in unison to create this memorable event that just blew the New Theatre apart – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd enjoy themselves so much. We left complaining of jaw ache from too much smiling!

The lighting and costume departments have excelled themselves, I just wish I had my camera so that I could see it over and over again. I also need to source a pair of flares, just for next time! This is one of those productions that you’d go to as a group, I can imagine taking all of my girlfriends there for a girls night out.

This will go down as my favourite production to date – not so much the story but the general feel of it all. It gets a 5 out of 5 from me!

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
