Zippo HeatBank 6 Review

Rechargeable Hand Warmer & Power Bank

Reviewed by Christine Widdows

I have suffered with Raynaud’s for a number of years now, which causes my hands and feet to get extremely cold and makes my skin look purple. I am always trying to keep my hands and feet warm, which means wrapping up warm when going out (and even when at home) and taking plenty of hot baths. With winter now kicking in, it is getting harder to keep my hands and feet nice and warm and I have been looking at other ways to keep my extremities warm. I now have an electric foot warmer that is helping a lot but haven’t found anything really suitable for my hands and don’t want to wearing gloves at home when sitting watching television or reading a book. I have tried disposable glove hand warmers but find they don’t really work as I don’t feel they get hot enough, so I have been looking around for another solution. Then Whitby & Co sent me the solution; a Zippo HeatBank.

Whitby & Co, based in Cumbria, are the UK’s leading outdoor accessories distributor. They offer the latest and best outdoor accessory products for outdoor pursuits, including rechargeable hand warmers. They supply equipment for outdoors and camping, hunting and fishing, gift, DIY, agricultural and many more items from world-renowned names such as Leatherman, Zippo, Klean Kanteen and Opinel.

As I said, Whitby & Co kindly send me a Zippo HeatBank Rechargeable Hand Warmer & Power Bank. The rechargeable heat bank is available in two versions; 3-hour and 6-hour and I received the 6-hour version. The 6-hour version is available in two colours; green and silver.

I have only even known Zippo as makers of lighters so was pleasantly surprised when the HeatBank turned up, I have always thought of Zippo as good quality and the HeatBank is just as good.

The Zippo HeatBank 6 is a little furnace in your hand. It has been ergonomically designed (kidney shaped) and fits neatly into the palm of my hand. It has five heat settings and has the added bonus of being a little power bank so that I can charge my phone while out and out should I need to.

It features:

  • 5200mAh battery
  • Up to 6 hours use
  • Up to 120°F/50°C
  • USB port to charge devices
  • Supplied with USB cable

When switched on, the HeatBank heats from both sides very quickly. It can reach a maximum temperature of 120°F/50°C, so it does an excellent job of warming my hands. This has been a massive help to me, even more so because it is portable, small and light enough to keep in my pocket so I can also use it when out shopping. There are five heat levels which are easily selected by pressing the button to move through the different levels (the level you are using is indicated by a small LED light). On the lowest heat level, I can get 6 hours of use as a hand warmer out of the fully charged HeatBank – this will reduce depending on what heat level you are using and if you are charging your phone.

It also has a secondary purpose of being a power bank, making it a portable battery to charge your phone. This is really easy to use, I just plug in the USB cable into the phone and the HeatBank and it will start to charge my phone.

Charging the HeatBank is also very easy and only takes a couple of hours. I can use the supplied USB cable and plug it into my laptop or I can use my existing phone charger to charge it up. The small LED lights will indicate how much charge it has got and when full.

Overall, I love the Zippo HeatBank. It is doing an excellent job of warming my hands when needed, whether at home or out and about. I can see how this would also be very beneficial to people that work outside or in a chilled environment.

I absolutely love it and it has been going everywhere with me. I think it would make an excellent Christmas gift for anyone that feels the cold for whatever reason, whether working outside or for medical reasons, and you can even keep your phone topped up while out so there is no excuse for a flat battery when you need to make that important call!

I will have to give the Zippo HeatBank top marks, the only way to improve it would be a small bag to store it when not in use.
