Leapfrog are so good at making innovative learning toys that are lots of fun and also in tune with the latest technology. The Fun – 2-3 camera is a perfect example of the things they do so well. Looking at it in the box the colours are so bright and vibrant. It just screams “play with me”, and would appeal to a toddler.
Designed for children aged 12 months and up, the camera is made from very sturdy plastic and is good and chunky for little hands to grasp firmly. There are two buttons to press a lens to turn and a wheel to spin. The camera also comes with five double sided animal photo cards, each made of strong plastic that will last as long as the camera. To keep the cards safe they can be threaded onto the cameras carrying strap after play.
So the child chooses a photo card, puts it into the large slot in the camera and presses the blue button. This activates a little phrase or song relating to the animal on the photo card. When you press the red button the photo card is ejected. You can also use it without the cards and the blue button makes a very realistic camera noise. One thing that I really liked and must mention is that the voice recording it British and does not have an American voice like so many other toys of this type.
There is so much more play value in this toy. If you turn the lens you get some examples of the day and night opposites. You can turn a wheel by the viewfinder to change the colours. There’s a mirror on the back of the camera. This toy can help a child learn numbers, colours and recognise animals. Also to develop fine motor skills like turning, pressing and clicking.
The toy does so much. I think a child will continue to find new things that it can do and continue to learn from it and it will give many hours of play at home. To begin with it is fun just to press the buttons and take the photo cards in and out but this will develop into listening and learning from the phrases on the cards.
The toy comes with demonstration batteries which should be replaced with 2xAAA batteries for prolonged use at home. The packaging is made of more than 90% recycled cardboard which is 100% recyclable.
Leapfrog is part of the V tech group and for over twenty years they have been producing a great variety of toys with ranges for baby, toddler, preschool and primary school.
