Both shows use actors and amazing Bogglevision 3D effects, helping the audience to feel what it was like to live in Roman Britain or Ancient Egypt.
These two astounding shows, The Ruthless Romans and The Awful Egyptians, are guaranteed to thrill audience members of all ages. Historical events and figures will come alive on stage.
The shows are adapted from Terry Deary’s bestselling Horrible Histories books. The BBC’s very popular TV versions have recently won British Comedy and Royal Television Society awards. Deary is the world’s best selling non-fiction author for children and has written nearly 200 books, which have been translated into more than 30 different languages.
In The Ruthless Romans learn how the Romans made murder into a sport in the Colosseum, evil emperors, killer kings, gory gladiators and grim ghouls. With incredible Bogglevision effects the audience will feel what it was like to be a Roman Soldier in the greatest army ever seen, and prepare to meet sword-slaying Spartacus
In The Awful Egyptians learn the truth of Tutankhamun and his creepy curse and find out the fearsome facts about phabulous pharaohs, mean mummies and gruesome grave robbers. See how the Egyptians really lived 5000 years ago, how dead bodies were turned into mummies and how the pyramids were built. Get ready to rumble with Ramesses the Great, and dare you enter through the Gates of the Afterlife?
Horrible Histories are directed by Phil Clark, designed by Jackie Trousdale, lighting by Jason Taylor, music by Matthew Scott & 3D effects by Amazing Interactives. Awful Egyptians is adapted by John-Paul Cherrington & Ruthless Romans by Ciaran McConville. The cast is Luke Broughton, Michael Moulton, Lauryn Redding, Daniel Thomas & Gary Wilson.
Birmingham Stage Companyare well known for their great stage versions of children’s classics such as The Jungle Book, Tom’s Midnight Garden, Kensuke’s Kingdom and many Roald Dahl adaptations including Danny the Champion of the World and currently George’s Marvellous Medicine.
