This cutlery arrived in a plastic bag covering a cardboard box delivered by Royal Mail.  Normally I am looking to see how sustainable the company are in their packaging and expect paper or cardboard covering the item but due to the recent heavy rains, I was pleased that it was covered by a layer of plastic though I do not think it is biodegradable plastic however, it can be reused as a bin liner for a small wastepaper bin.  I received a personalised card with my name on, welcoming me to happy mealtimes.

Mealtimes can be a source of anxiety particularly with toddlers, so this comment is very important.  The card also invited me to scan the QR code which I did and immediately I am on their website.  They also give you their email address so you can contact them if you have any queries.  I think this is very helpful as it is often hard to find this piece of information when you do have a query.

The box was in excellent condition and the packaging makes it very easy to see what you are getting as the front of the box is cut away to reveal the cutlery in a plastic pouch showing the toddler knife, fork, and spoon which are metal with white plastic handles.  These handles come with a green centre.  The packaging is in modern colours with the background being predominately deep purple with smaller areas in green, so all the white letters stand out.  It is easy to read the words on the packaging, which state what is present in the box; that it is safe for children to use; they will learn how to use them in minutes, and they are of an ergonomic design.

It is impressive to see that the cutlery has been awarded the Kings Award for Enterprise 2023 innovation and there is a Union Jack flag printed on the side of the package stating this is a British design though it is manufactured in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China.  Also, on the side of the package is the trademark Doddl and fact it can be used for toddlers from the age of 1 up to beyond five years of age.  The back of the package has all the necessary information (also in four other languages).  This informs you of how highly rated it is with other parents; that it underwent a lot of research and testing to ensure that they are ideal for children to use them, as well as mentioning they are dishwasher safe (an essential fact for parents /guardians and grandparents).  It also informs you that they should always be used with adult supervision but then eating should always be supervised.

Unlike other toddler cutlery, the handles are chunky and short.  They are made this way so they are easy to use and certainly my 13 month old granddaughter had no problem picking up the spoon and putting it directly into her mouth. She certainly looked very pleased with herself.  The reason why they are easier to use is that not only are the handles short and chunky, but the green part of the handles is rubberised making it much easier for little fingers to grip.  My granddaughter’s little fingers can easily hold the handles and because the handles are short, she was able to move the spoon from the food to her mouth with the food staying on the spoon rather than most of the food falling off the spoon which is what tends to happen with my other cutlery with longer handles!

I like the fact there is a choice of colours for the rubberised part of the handles; mine are green but you can choose either deep purple or red.  I decided I needed to see if my three-year-old grandson could use the knife and fork. I was very surprised that he knew immediately what to do with the knife as I thought I would need to show him, but he cut up his spaghetti Bolognese with ease.  This set of cutlery, is a success and I wish they had been available when my own children were toddlers but thankfully my grandchildren will get a lot of use out of them.  I would certainly recommend parents and grandparents purchasing a set each and if you are often out when it is food time then they do a neat little toddler cutlery case which fits all the cutlery and has a clip so it can be hung from a loop in the changing bag so easy to find.  This case is also dishwasher safe and comes in a choice of two colours white or grey.  If you sign up for their newsletter, you can get 10% off your first order and if you buy either more than one set or just one set of cutlery and the case then you qualify for free delivery.
