The Scavenger Hunt Journal by Craft-tastic is brilliant! It is a glossy 32-page journal with a set of 521 colourful stickers that can be used throughout the book that can be used to make walks and nature fun. I like that there is a handy pouch at the back of the journal that holds the sticker pages, so you have them to hand when you are out on your scavenger hunt. The pages host a variety of activities which include:

– Find it activities – these encourage children to search for items in nature and there are stickers that are housed at the back of the book that can be used whilst you are out and about. This was very popular with my explorer and he loved these pages!

– Collection pages – these encourage your little ones to collect flowers, leaves, feathers, sticks, petals …. All sorts!

– Nature Badges – there are a number of nature and extreme nature badges to collect, each badge has a circle in the book with a corresponding sticker on the sticker sheet. These encourage you to a sunrise, birds, find animal tracks, listen to bird calls and my favourite… Play in the rain and run around your home 3 times. There’s a whole range of badges and everyone loves getting a sticker for doing or finding something good.

I really liked the book, but my 6 year old has really big writing so for the money, it would have been nice to have had a slightly bigger journal book. I guess I was expecting the book to be about the same size as the box, so I was a bit disappointed when it was smaller. It was great to have something that kept my child engaged and interested on a walk.

The other thing we found was that not long after we had started our scavenger hunt, the book began to bulge (the boy loves his leaves and especially feathers) this meant that the ring binders didn’t feel big enough to comfortably close the book without bending the pages. A bit of elastic could have kept the pages together What would have been nice, is to have a few journaling pages of the back of the book so my child could have kept notes in there. The book is for 6+ years but I think some elements could be suitable from 5 years.

I loved the sticker sheets that came with the Scavenger Hunt Journal. There was a key in the top left corner of each of the sticker sheets that showed which page each sheet of stickers was recommended for. This was brilliant as I pointed this out to my boy and he was trying to make sure he had the right stickers. The stickers also doubled up as glue and they could be used to stick all the scavenged items into the book. This meant that you didn’t have to carry glue around with you. There were a couple of pages that mentioned that glue was needed but I didn’t think it was as the stickers were quite useful. The stickers were bright and colourful and there were so many of them, from colourful badges, insects, birds as well as longer stickers to attach items in the book. My only thought about the stickers with the book was that since it was completed, it couldn’t be used any more. It would have been great if there was a reusable element, so maybe a grid or a tick box next to the badges that could be used for the future.

Looking through the Craft-tastic website, they were formed 10 years ago in 2014 and are known for all things making. Their range includes bracelet along, hair charms, learning how to sew to yarn unicorns. There appears to be something for everyone and the prices are quite reasonable. It’s great to see some high quality crafting items.

I would highly recommend the Scavenger Hunt Journal and I would probably buy for presents as I think it’s great to encourage others to go out into nature and enjoy the great outdoors.
