I’m massively into re-using, sustainability and reducing our negative impact on the environment as much as possible. So when I got the chance to review some the ACALA reusable make-up wipes and natural soap bar, I was very happy. Despite my efforts to become as green as possible in my daily life, I have never even thought to try reusable make-up wipes. So this was something completely new to me.
The wipes came in a pack of 5. They don’t look much different from your usual cotton wool pads but slightly larger. The simple cardboard sleeve that they came in told me that they are made of organic cotton and bamboo and could be washed in a machine at 30 degrees. So sustainable material that – should they ever come to the end of their lives- could easily be composted -tick. Nice minimal and recyclable packaging – tick- and can be washed on a cool cycle – tick. From a green point of view, I’m already onboard.
I decided to try them with my favourite facial toner. And found they absorb the liquid easily, were really soft on my skin and effective at applying the product just as I needed. I was very happy with their functionality, they do just what they say on the recyclable packaging! I washed them as normal with my whites and found that they washed really well – coming out as good as new. The biggest surprise for me however was the price. This lovely little product retails at £5.99 for one packet of 5. I think this is really reasonable and added to that, if looked after, could last a life time. It will save you so much more in the long run – a smart investment for anyone who uses cotton wool pads for whatever reason. I also since used them to remove make-up with my trusty organic coconut oil and they work just as effectively.
The soap I received was the Acala Rosehip, Orange and Patchouli Soap that is natural, vegan and handmade. Again this is packaged in simple brown paper that can easily be recycled. I could smell this soap before I opened it and knew I was going to love it. The scent is amazing and really lasts and if you want proof that its natural you can see glimpses of the natural product – herbs and patals contained within it. It was lovely to use and left my skin feeling clean and soft. I really love the soap and will definitely be purchasing in again in future. This soap bar is 100g and retails at £4.99 which I do think is a real bargain for the quality of it.
Both of these items can be purchased on the ACALA website. I’ll admit I’ve never heard of the brand Acala before but now after having tried their products and read up on their sustainability ethos, I’ll definitely be shopping there in future. They offer a whole range of sustainable beauty products and I already have my eye on the reusable nail polish wipes , dry shampoo and shampoo bars. I think I may have a new favourite brand!
Rating: I give both products and especially the brand a 5/5. They’re a wonderful addition to your beauty regime or would make a truly lovely gift.
