I attended the opening party of The Lord Palmerston in Tufnell Park, London, NW5.

The pub is a large Victorian building on the corner of Chetwynd Road. It’s a very handy 2 minute walk from Tufnell Park tube station on the Northern Line.

My first impression from the outside was a smart looking, trendy place to be seen. There are tables and chairs out the front, protected from the weather by a canopy overhead.

Once inside, the large bar area is a U shape. It was particularly busy, due to the launch night, so difficult to fully appreciate the space and décor, but I’m sure on a normal evening there would be plenty of space and places to sit. The décor has a rustic, homely look to it, making you feel quite comfortable.

To one side of the bar is a small cosy, seated area with a bookcase above & log fire close by, which really makes for a homely feel. Further along is a ‘snug’ area, perfect for a small group to chill together. To the other side of the bar is a ‘lounge’ area with leather chairs around a log fire & a quirky looking barber’s chair, which makes for interesting conversation!

A small set of stairs leads to the garden area, which has canopies and heat lamps for those chilly evenings. A fire pit was on view but not actually working; a shame as I feel it would have been a nice touch on this cold evening.

Another flight of stairs from the ‘lounge’ area lead to the toilets and a ‘Club Room’. The toilets were clean, very bright & airy but lacking a full length mirror! The ‘Club Room’ is ideal for a function/party & has seating for 30 people, fully equipped with projector screen and sound system, it seems everything has been thought of!

I had an enjoyable evening and would definitely go back again. The staff were very friendly and always busy. I didn’t sample the food, but the prices looked very reasonable. The entertainment consisted of drink sampling & a scantily clad buxom lady with a snake!

Unfortunately one young lady’s hair caught fire from the tea light on the table. I’m not sure whether it’s fair to say that tea lights on the table are a health hazard, or if the fact that there was a FREE bar for 2 hours, made us all a little careless?!

I would rate this pub 4/5 and definitely go back again!

Rating: 4/5
