The Warwick Castle Experience

Our party included myself, my disabled nineteen year old son, and my two daughters aged thirteen and ten.

Warwick castle is situated right in the heart of the midlands, set in beautifully sculptured grounds and gardens it offers something for every visitor!

Arriving at 10am as it opened we had a very full day it catered well for all ages and abilities, in the gardens there are a variety of flora and fauna ranging from flowers, shrubs and bushes to crows, pigeons and free range peacocks. There is an archery demonstration, jousting, falconry, storytelling and the mighty trebuchet. There is also have-a-go archery, face painting and design your own shield (at an extra cost).

Inside the castle walls there are several towers that are accessible, but are a reasonably stiff climb (not recommended for those with a heart condition or the elderly). Also inside the castle walls there are a variety of other attractions which included:

  • Plenty of medieval characters around to entertain and assist visitors

  • The King Maker (a walk around underneath the castle to see the work that used to make it function)

  • The Gaol (where the bad were punished)

  • The secrets and scandals of the royals (in the castle residence)

  • The new Merlin attraction (based on the BBC series is an experience for all the family to enjoy)

  • The castle dungeon (recommended for ten year olds and over) this was by far the best of the attractions, a combination of live actors and props make this a must see part of your visit (beware you may be involved in the entertainment yourself)! We were on numerous occasions

We enjoyed a reasonably priced lunch from the courtyard BBQ which was only one place out of a wide range of cuisine, twelve choices in all including a pancake cart.

All in all we had a fantastic day out despite the wet weather and would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area!
