“Welcome to the world of Edward Lear. Where nothing makes sense and everything is fun” oh how true is this quote, as I found out when I was lucky enough to be asked to review this fantastic collection re-published to celebrate Lear’s bicentenary in 2012.
Ever since I can remember the Owl and the Pussycat has been one of my favourite poems, I can still recite it word for word! So I was very excited about reading this fabulous book by a great poet. It contains lots of long poems along with 236 limericks all of which are brilliantly written, and are a verbal delight.
The book brought a smile to my face on many occasions with its witty and sometimes ridiculous contents. Every generation of my family enjoyed it and it will be read again and again over the years I’m sure.
A really lovely book for the family bookcase.
