I received the Pure Vanilla recipe book written by Shauna Sever for review and was surprised and delighted with some of the suggestions it gave.

A hard back book with useful conversion charts inside the front and back covers it offered a brief and interesting potted history of vanilla plus a useful questions and answer section with information that was good to know. The book is then broken down into chapters which included what I expected, cakes, cookies and sweets but also a few I wasn’t expecting such as breakfasts and drinks. I always like to see what the finished recipe should look like so the photography provided was very good and the overall look of the book was very inviting.

I thought I would try one of the recipes and opted for the Vanilla Cream Pie. The ingredients were either ones that I already had in my cupboard or were very easy to source and I managed to find everything I needed at my local supermarket. The instructions were easy to follow although I did need to use the conversion charts for all the weights and measures but the finished pie was very like the picture and tasted amazing even though I am not the best cook in the world! Definitely a recipe I would use again and I am looking forward to trying more.

This recipe book is very American in its nature and language but if you are looking for a gift for someone with some different recipe ideas or you love the idea of all things Vanilla this could be just what you are looking for.
