Prezzybox Battery Heated Socks Review

Reviewed by Kristen Boyd

As I live in rural Scotland and it is January and currently very cold I was excited to receive the Battery Heated Socks from Prezzybox for review. I hate cold feet and the thought of heated socks sounded like heaven.

I am a size 4 and size small fitted me perfectly. The wool (30%) and acrylic (70%) mix makes the sock thick and comfortable to wear. They are black with a unisex design of diamonds across the top, and an additional slogan across the bottom: “I love bad weather”, which I rather liked.

The socks are designed to reach to just below the knee although if your calves are a little on the large side (like mine) you will find it a stretch to actually pull them up this high as they are unfortunately not very wide. This meant they sort of bunched up around mid-calf level, which was not particularly comfortable and left a mark on my skin. The battery pack on the side of each sock is rather awkward as it needs 3xAA batteries and its size reflects this. Unfortunately this meant I was unable to wear my wellies or knee high boots with them, a fact that I found quite disappointing as these would have been perfect, in my opinion, for wearing with such socks.

There is one heated pad across the top of the toes. It heats quickly once turned on and apparently lasts up to 5 hours. I have worn the socks twice for at least an hour of heat so far and there has yet been no deterioration in the heat provided. However, when requiring 6 AA batteries I certainty would have hoped this was the case! Washing is by hand wash only and the battery pack can be disconnected prior to this.

The socks work well in terms of keeping your feet warm. There is an easy and accessible switch for turning the heat on and off and a red light in case you have forgotten if they are on or not. I would have like additional pads perhaps around the heel area but certainly my toes were kept nice and warm.

The idea of heated socks is a nice one. However, the battery pack on each sock is cumbersome and severely limits your choice of footwear. I was not particularly impressed with the difficulty in pulling the socks up either. In addition, the requirement of 6 AA batteries is a serious drain on your pocket. Unfortunately I see this product as more of a novelty item but with a recommended retail price of around £25 I feel it is a fairly undesirable one.
