Miller & Carter Steakhouse does exactly what it says on its menu – steak, and lots of it. We recently went for a meal at the Leeds branch.

Enter through a large glass doorway and you’re immediately greeted by friendly staff ready to take you to a table. Being a large venue, there are plenty of tables, with everything from cosybooths to small tables for two. The rich inviting decor contrasted of dark leather booths and red lighting works really well. We were taken to a booth that can seat up to 4 so me and my boyfriend had plenty of room to stuff ourselves sill with the tasty delights that were on offer.

The starters were standard fare; chicken wings, prawn cocktail, nachos and salads are all present and correct (and around the £5 mark). More interesting are the scallop and black pudding, and the calamari. After umming and ahing for what seemed like an eternity we decided, I was going to have the yummy sounding scallops with black pudding and my boyfriend was going for the nachos. I have to admit here I was really dubious about my starter as I detest black pudding but ordered it regardless as I love scallops. At the insistence of my boyfriend I begrudgingly tried the black pudding and to my extreme surprise I loved it, it was cooked to perfection and had a slight BBQ taste to it that complimented the scallops well. As for the nachos I didn’t get a look in as my boyfriend polished off a huge bowl in less than 5 minutes so I can only assume that they were fantastic.

Now for the mains, if you like your meat you really are spoilt for choice, from filet mignon, to porterhouse, from rump to chateaubriand there really is something for every beef aficionado and they are also reasonably priced ranging from £12.95 up to £42.95 for the Chateau Briand. Aside from the impressive grill menu, they also offer a great variety of other food such as burger, pasta, risotto and I have to say they all looked pretty scrummy too. In the end we both decided on the same main dish which was the sublime fillet wellington. It was mouth wateringly delicious, the steak inside the pasty case was delightfully pink and melted in the mouth. It was served with a scrummy slice of onion loaf, a side of fries and an iceberg lettuce wedge all of which complimented each other perfectly.

After finishing every morsel on our plates we were stuffed so much so that desert was just a dream – there was no way we could have managed it. Instead of desert our very attentive waitress Lillia brought us a cocktail menu and recommended a French Martini, and I have to say this was the perfect end to our perfect meal.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
