I was very excited when I was asked to review Laser Quest as it was an activity I enjoyed as a child.

I was chosen to review it with my best friend and fellow reviewer Emma, my stepdaughter Kaya 10 years and Emma's 7 year old daughter Madison.

Emma and I called Laser Quest to arrange a convenient review date and spoke to a lovely lady called Sam who was extremely friendly and accommodating.

We arrived a little early as traffic was non-existent and went straight up to the Laser Quest reception desk where we booked in and were asked to pick a name for ourselves to play as. I chose Dark Angel, Emma was Candyfloss, Kaya was Daisy Duck and Madison was Angel. The first thing I noticed was the decor; everything was made to look futuristic and sci-fi.

We were told we had a 10 minute wait as there was another game in progress but as we were early we expected that, we took a seat in the waiting area and to our surprise the lady behind the desk asked if the girls wanted a go on The Rock, a climbing wall situated next to Laser Quest. The girls jumped at the chance and enjoyed the challenge of climbing the moving and tilting climbing wall. The girls were in safe hands as a member of staff stayed with them and helped them when they became stuck or worried. The Rock is three and a half metres high and surrounded by thick padded flooring. Both completed the Kilimanjaro challenge and received Achievement Cards for their efforts and were thrilled. Both girls did wonderfully well and both Emma and I were very proud of them.

A short while later we were called to the desk and give silver fobs and asked to go upstairs into the briefing room where we watched a short video on how to fit our equipment correctly and how to play safely. The video was great and kept in with the sci-fi theme. The video was easy to understand and was very informative.

We were then led into the kit room and fitted with body packs and laser guns, we used the silver fobs to programme our guns so that they were personalised to us and collected our points.

Once we were dressed we were reminded of a few important rules from the video and were then allowed to enter the Labyrinth.

It was dark, smoky and had futuristic music playing, the safety signs and exits were clear to see which was reassuring and the course was well thought out.

Although it was dark it wasn't scary so the girls were soon zapping away.

The atmosphere was electric and the smoke, light and sound effects were awesome. It was like we were on a spaceship.

We decided to split up and went on to stalk our prey and zapped them with all our might. The girls loved it!

The girls were zapped a few times but soon got the hang of hiding in the tunnels and corners. The game lasts between 20 and 25 minutes which flies by when you are in the Labyrinth.

At the end of the game the music stopped and the lights turned on and we were asked to return to the kit room to change and collect our belongings.

The girls both asked if they could play again but we didn't have time today.

We made our way down the stairs to the desk and were presented with a Points Card each which showed us how well we had done. The card had the names of the players you had zapped on one side with the points you won and on the other side had a list of which players had zapped you and the points you had lost. The card also showed where we were zapped (front, back, shoulder or laser gun) and extra points were awarded for accurate zapping.

We came away with huge smiles on our faces and very pleased with our Laser Quest experience which was excellent value for money £4.95 off peak and £5.45 peak times.

Laser Quest also host birthday parties at very reasonable prices, details can be found on their website www.lqtc.co.uk or by calling 0161 7550600

A HUGE thumbs up from the WGTD team.

I enjoyed Laser Quest and also The Rock. I was scared until I saw my friend Madison climbing high. After that we went into a room and watched a video of what we had to do. Then we got out vests on and our guns and went into the battle room. It was really big and fun and I loved zapping everyone. I had lots of fun even though I didn't get many points.
Kaya age 10

A lot of excitement was buzzing around our household when we found out we were lucky enough to be able to go and run around and 'shoot' at each other! It was proving a little tricky to try and find a suitable day and time for us and the two other friends that were to go, but the people at Laser Quest were very accommodating and tried their best to fit us in when it suited us.

So we booked for a Wednesday after school, as the 2 children my friend and I were taking were of a school age (7 and 10 years) I did however forget the actual time we were booked in for so I rang ahead just to make sure and again the staff was really friendly and clear spoken and told us our slot was 4pm, but if we were late it didn't matter there would be no problem in pushing out slot back!

We arrived buzzing with excitement and with 10 minutes to spare, so we checked in and asked to have a seat in the waiting area just in front, so we used this time to grab a drink and use the toilet all of which was in close reach.

We kept looking up at the Arena and couldn't wait to get in and have a play as even at first glance you could tell that it was going to be fun.

The décor was very inviting and realistic. Futuristic and very sci-fi like.

The 2 young ones were so excited when they were asked if they would like to pass some time by having a go at the climbing wall 'The Rock' that was next to the Laser Quest. 'The Rock is a test of strength, speed and stamina with its numerous simulated climbs' It is a climbing wall with a difference as you are not very high off the floor as the wall rotates to keep you on your feet and off the floor, the better and longer you climb the faster the wall rotates and to make it a little trickier it also tilts to make you work harder.

The girls did a fantastic job, and was talked through the process clearly but the lovely lady on the desk, who also stayed in really close reach, so that if the girls wanted help or to stop she was there for them.

At the end of their go they got an achievement card with their result on.

When it was our turn for the Laser Quest we were called to the front desk to choose our 'game names' they gave you a list of ideas to choose from or you could make up your own as long as it was between 6 and 10 letters. I went for the very understated 'Candyfloss', my daughter (7) was 'Angel' her friend (10) was 'daisy duck' and the other adult in our party was 'Dark Angel' and was given a special key to use with our laser gun at the start of the game as it was programmed with our names and would keep a log of our scores.

We were then told to wait by some doors nest to the where we were stood, we were waiting all giggly and excited even more so when the doors whooshed opened and we were led up to a video room, to watch a film on how to play the game, the rules and regulations, also how to use the equipment and where to shoot the laser's and how we could gain and lose points. You got different amounts of points depending on where you hit your opponents.

The sci-fi feeling continued throughout the video and all the little props they had in the room. The video was easy to follow for people of all ages and was clear and straight to the point.

Then it was off to the next room to get all kitted out in out laser gear.

We had a laser vest which was easy to place over your head and buckled at the side, they looked heavy but were really light and they had a gun holder on the side to keep your laser gun handy and close to you ready to shoot your opponents. They were all one size but had plenty of room.

We then had to put our special keys on to the guns to log our self's into the game, then we were ready for the off.

Then we were shown into the main Arena. We were met by a huge darkened room with fantastic light effects. It was split over two levels with plenty of obstructions and ramps that were really good to hide round, under and behind giving you a great chance to score loads of points without being seen.

There were plenty of special effects included music and fog to help you lose yourself in the game and take you on your sci-fi journey.

We had so much fun running around and shooting at any target we could see even if that meant shooting a friend! 'All’s fair in love and war!'

Even the younger one's found it really easy to run about in their laser vests and weren't worried about getting lost as they knew they only had to shout or raise their laser guns and someone would be there to help.

Once the game had finished we were shown back into the kit room to take our the equipment and back out into the main area where we couldn't wait to pick up our score cards and find out how well we did.

Overall a fabulous and energetic day had all round and we will be back.

The staff were amazing and friendly and had loads of time for the children whenever they had a question or problem. A big thumbs up.
