Knitty Critters Pipsqueak Teddy Review

Reviewed by Michelle Alexander

This awesomely soft, cute and adorably squidgy teddy wants and needs to be loved and is especially ideal for little ones, although, there is no guideline on the age group and on checking the website, I couldn’t see anything about age group under the description.

The Pipsqueak Teddy knitting kit is ideal for beginners, which is what I am, and knits up quick and easy.

The kit includes all of the following where everything, except the knitting pattern/instructions, are neatly and individually packaged:

1 x 100g/3.5oz Bernat Pipsqueak yarn (92m/101yards) chunky weight
1 x length of DK yarn (4m/4.5 yards approx.) for eyes, nose and mouth
1 x set of 2 of 5mm knitting needles
1 x 100g toy stuffing
1 x Teddy knitting pattern/instructions

The picture of the teddy on the box long with those on the knitting pattern/instructions show that of a ribbon tied around its neck and is also mentioned as a requirement on the knitting pattern/instructions as 50cm, however, this wasn’t supplied.  So ‘bear’ this in mind if you buy it that you’ll need to also buy ribbon for it.

The knitting pattern/instructions are very easy to follow and also explain the following which is a great help, especially to beginners:

TENSION
Not critical and is unique to the individual.
Guideline of 16 rows and 11sts to 10cm/4” square approximately.

The kitting pattern/instructions also lists the abbreviations you need to follow.

The finished size is approximately 34cms/13.5” tall

Taken from the website, the washing guidelines are as follows:

Gentle machine wash
Do not bleach
Do not iron
Do not dry clean
Re-plump stuffing when dry

Whilst there doesn’t appear to be a BSI logo on it (British Standards Institution) which confirms toy safety, it does show it’s been tested for harmful substances and is certified and approved according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. This means it has been tested for over 300 harmful substances.

All this teddy needs is a name. I named mine Benji.

RRP is £20 and gives you a great sense of satisfaction knowing you’ve made it and the kit or the completed teddy would make a great Christmas gift.

Rating: 4.5/5
