Well, where do I start…
We all loved Butlins Minehead and all it had to offer! Top marks all round, we cannot wait to go back!
This is SOME of what we experienced:
Prior to our arrival:
We were sent regular countdown emails… all adding to our excitement of the holiday awaiting us… they included snippets of what would be on offer and what fun we were going to have… we could not wait!
You are greeted by numerous smiling staff the moment you enter the Butlins resort. Being a “Gold accommodation” visitor, we were allocated our own “Gold reception” to check-in at… upon finding it, we were greeted with a very warm welcome, given precise directions to our apartment including a map and the entrance key cards and also an entertainment guide…
So it begins… rushing to find our apartment, laden with bags and excited children (and adults), we were pleasantly surprised at our accommodation. We were VERY close to the main centre of Butlins (the Skyline Pavillion) too. Fantastic. The apartment itself was modern, roomy and very clean. Three well-presented, welcoming bedrooms, a bright open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area and a fully equipped toilet/shower room was everything we needed for somewhere to relax between all the fun of the resort! The gold accommodation also comes with the addition of daily housekeeping and a fresh supply of towels. Wonderful!
So after a quick browse of the entertainment guide, we were off… we knew our break was going to be fabulous, and it was!
The main venue, the Skyline Pavillion has it all…
One of the numerous stages for show presentations (this one mainly showcasing entertainment for the younger ones, ideal for us!), lots of amusements – the slot machines, toy grabbers, penny arcade machines, childrens mini rides, cafes, bars, shops and restaurants including Pizza Hut, Burger King, sweet shops, Costa Coffee, Spar, souvenir shops and more, puppet theatre, soft play frame and bungee trampolines and access to other entertainment venues such as “Reds” and “Centre Stage”
We spent nearly all our time in here… the children loved the shows, especially those of children’s favourites such as Thomas the Tank Engine and Angelina Ballerina. The Butlins team of performers were fabulous and there was no doubt the staff had as much fun as us visitors. There was an almost constant stream of entertainment in here, whether it be the entertainment staff rallying around between shows, a storytime moment, a puppet show or a full on presentation. There was always something here to give everyone lots of smiles… and it did.
When we weren’t in the Skyline Pavillion, we were watching the children ‘fly around’ in the aeroplanes, ‘drive the cars’ around the track or ‘get dizzy’ spinning in the teacups – in the indoor fairground aimed at their age group. In addition, we could enjoy the delights of the main outdoor fairground (some height restrictions apply), numerous outdoor play parks, sand diggers as well as the giant deckchair – an unmissable photo opportunity! We had a fabulous time in the “Splash Waterworld”… flumes a plenty but for our little ones, the wave machine, toddler slide, shallow pool and allocated toddler times (early mornings) were exactly what we needed in the way of watery fun.
IT WAS AMAZING. Stavros Flatly! The magician! The Skyline Gang! The Redcoats! Pingu! Fireman Sam! Sesame Street! Out of all though, we were particularly enthralled by the “Beauty and The Beast Fairytale Panto”. Suitable for all ages with laughs a plenty for all. Fabulous costumes, songs and audience participation made our 2nd evening an absolutely wonderful night. The image of our children waving their newly purchased flashing disco “microphones”, beaming from ear to ear, is something that will be treasured forever. Oh, and I’m still singing the “Butlins by the sea” rhyme now..! J
As well as shows, there was plenty of other offerings for the children too… the crafts session… painting and drawing and sticking and gluing – a pre-schoolers favourite pastime! The “I Can Cook” session – a lovely addition, the children learning and cooking almost exactly as what the show offers. Both children were delighted at this opportunity to create a culinary “masterpiece” of their own. Then there were the character photo shoots, tots soccer and more! Butlins really did have it all!
We highly recommend the premium dining plan! (Breakfast and evening meal plan)
Again… we loved it! “The Deck” offered buffet-style dining at a premium level. With some dishes cooked to order (pastas, omelettes, stirfrys etc) and others laid out in trays, clearly freshly cooked, there was an option for everyone’s tastes. They even provided brightly coloured plastic bowls and plates for the younger ones. Juices, teas and coffees were included too. Alcoholic and other soft drinks (an additional cost) were available and offered by waiting staff and everything was VERY clean. The food was tasty, well-presented and there was plenty of it. We were spoilt for choice.
At lunchtimes, the numerous places around the resort offered light snacks to bigger meals and we even had the facilities in our room to make a “bite” of our own.
Well we had to leave at some point… and the check-out was easy. Simply handing over our room ‘key cards’ and we were free to leave, despite not wanting to! Obviously we didn’t leave without armfuls of souvenirs… replica outfits of those the “Skyline Gang” wore, some cuddies won from the amusements, character photo shoot snapshots, lots of memories and of course… worn out little ones (and big ones too)!
So a big THUMBS UP to Butlins Minehead. We can’t wait to see you again. We all had a fabulous time and we have so many memories. We all rate you 5 out of 5. Well, we think you offer so much that it should be 10 out of 10 instead! Thank you!
