I am very fond of shopping at ASDA as I’m really impressed with the quality, variety and value of their food, so I was happy to receive a selection of their Extra Special food range plus a bottle of wine to review for a Valentine’s Day Meal. Each one of the dishes is already prepared and ready to pop into the oven so making a Valentine’s Day meal to share with my husband was extremely easy, without all the fuss of peeling and preparing the vegetables and other ingredients and cooking everything from scratch.
For a starter I chose the delicious ASDA Extra Special Cornish Camembert with a Sloe Gin and Cranberry Dip. I placed the two portions of cheese into the oven for fifteen minutes and they came out lovely and crispy on the outside and deliciously runny on the middle. As a self-confessed cheese addict, this is my idea of heaven.
For our main meal I selected the ASDA Extra Special Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks as my husband is a great lover of lamb and I knew that this would be the perfect dish for him. This was already prepared so I could remove the packaging and pop the meat into the oven for 45 minutes. The meat was cooked to perfection, deliciously tender with a yummy mint sauce. This was served with ASDA Extra Special Root Vegetables with Shallot and Dijon Butter and ASDA Extra Special Wyke Farms Cheddar Maris Piper Mash. Once again these were extremely easy to cook as they are already prepared and can be placed into the oven with all the hard work of preparation having been done for me. The root vegetables consisted of a medley of Chantenay carrot, sweet potato, parsnip and swede, oven baked in tasty butter. I like my vegetables to have a crisp consistency and these were perfect. The Cheddar Mash was just popped into the microwave for 4 minutes and was deliciously smooth and creamy, in fact just as good as home-made.
For dessert we had scrumptious ASDA Extra Special Lemon Meringue Pies which tasted absolutely divine with a wonderfully crisp pastry shell, creamy lemon filling and meringue topping. I pride myself on being a good cook, but I honestly could not have baked these better myself.
To complete this lovely romantic Valentine’s meal, my husband and I shared a bottle of our favourite wine, a beautifully crisp and fresh tasting Pinot Grigio. Being able to have this lovely meal in the comfort of our own home was so much more romantic than going out to a crowded busy restaurant. ASDA have made delicious food extremely easy to prepare making this very special day even more perfect.
ASDA’s Extra Special Meal for Two cost £15 and consists of starter, mains, 2x sides, desert and drink.
