I am a lifelong fan of Jason Donovan, so when I was given the opportunity to review Annie Get Your Gun at the Opera House in Manchester I snapped up the opportunity.

My friend and I travelled into the city by car and easily parked at one of the parking meters down a nearby side street. The theatre looks magnificent from the outside, a beautiful building. We quickly collected our tickets and headed down some steps to the stalls. Our seats were in Row L and we had an excellent view of the stage. While we were waiting for the show to start, I had a good look around the beautiful theatre. A lovely member of staff came round selling refreshments. This was fantastic as it saved us going to the bar.

The show started and we were quickly introduced to the main characters, Frank Butler (Jason Donovan) and Annie Oakley (Emma Williams). They had an amazing chemistry. I was glued to the show and found myself routing for Frank and Annie. Annie became involved in the world of show business and the story follows how it all goes. Will Annie get her man in the end? I won’t ruin it, by telling you what happens.

So who stood out for me? The whole cast were outstanding. Jason Donovan was my personal favourite. The boy who played Little Jake was fantastic. Emma Williams has a powerful voice that simply blows you away. My favourite parts were a clever duet with Jason Donovan in the later part of the show and the well-known song ‘Anything you can do, I can do better.’ which had me laughing. Lorna Want who played Winnie Tate also stood out.

The set was simple but beautiful, with the band cleverly positioned to the back sides of the stage. Set changes were flawless. The costumes blew me away.

In the interval we popped to the ladies, which was kept clean and tidy. We then bought some ice cream to enjoy in our seats.

Watching the show was a fantastic way to spend an evening with a friend. The show is uplifting and has a talented cast.  I am giving it 5/5 and would recommend it.
