An Audience with Eric Cantona at The Lowry Manchester Review

The Lowry theatre is a superb venue, offering a choice of comfortable bars and seating areas. The show we saw was held in the Lyric Theatre, which offers great seating and very good acoustics.

We are not Manchester United fans, but we enjoy football and we were interested in hearing from this famous football legend. We were particularly interested in getting to know more about the wider football world and the life Eric Cantona now has outside of football.

The show was well attended, with a mixed audience in terms of gender, and there was a real buzz and a positive atmosphere within the theatre.

There were 2 parts to the show, initially a compare came on stage and spent around 20 minutes ‘warming up’ the audience with one liner Jokes. The compare was followed by a 20-minute interval, and then we were introduced to Eric Cantona. Eric received a huge reception from the many Manchester United fans in the audience.

Eric was on the stage being interviewed, and talking about his life, his love of Manchester United and his life today for around 1 hour. During this time he shared his career highlights and talked of his time with other football clubs as well as the time he spent at Manchester United. He has a real presence on the stage, and it is not difficult to understand his move from footballer to that of an actor.

The show perhaps didn’t offer as much to the neutral football supporter as it did to the Manchester United fans, and we didn’t feel we learnt a lot about the football world, other than what we already knew.

One of the highlights of the evening was a signed photograph which raised a grand total of £3,500 pounds for charity.

Fans of Manchester United will find this show a real treat.
